Drilon’s kin paid Php 5Million but mayor kept Php 3Million. Kidnapping crime, Philippines

The above title I took the idea from www.inquirer.net, one of the leading Filipino news paper. Below is the quoted statement of the paper and/or its reporter/journalist:

RANSOM. Indanan Mayor Alvarez Isnaji’s son, Haider, and Sulu Vice Governor Lady Ann Sahidula, look at the ransom money given by the family of TV reporter Ces Drilon to her captors in exchange for her release, along with her crew, and their guide. Seated in a yellow shirt and vest is the elder Isnaji. The photo is among the pieces of evidence presented by PNP Chief Avelino Razon to media Friday as proof of their claim that the Isnajis were accomplices of the kidnappers, identified as alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf. Razon also claims that Mayor Isnaji pocketed P3 million of the P5 million ransom. Read more and other related stuffs from Here at the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

What I just want to share about this stuff is the fact that payment of ransom in the Philippines is not prohibited. In other countries, when the family member is abducted, family members’ assets are freezed so as to force them not to pay. Or, if they insist on paying, the money are serialized as to catch the responsible criminals when they will spenf those amount in the future.

In the case of the Philippines however, as stated in that quoted text I have above, Filipinos are so “thick faced” when it comes to money. They can either sell their sould or be criticized, be despised or whatever, as long as they have money, it is nothing to them. Who can be trusted in the Philippine authorities? I never remembered trusting any when I was still there in my beloved country.

Another thing is, if kidnappers know that families can never have money, it would prevent them from abducting anyone because after all, they will not get any money. Right?
