Pacquiao Is a Guy in History. But is He Worth All the Praises?

"Manny Pacquiao knocks out David Diaz in the ninth round to become the new World Boxing Council lightweight champion. Pacquiao has made history as the first Asian to win world titles in four different weight classes, and the first Filipino to become a lightweight champion" (Inquirer, Philippines 2008)

The fact is undeniable. This Pacquiao guy has something in his knuckes and punches. In fact, when I was still in thePhilippines, we had to pay more just to see the live match of his boxing match when we had to and cheer for his sucess! We are Filipinos and it is obvious that we have to side with him, for his winnings, for representing the Philippines.

The crime rate in the counter lowers whenever he got a match because the Filipino community unites to pray, to cheer, to support and everything else that can be done to make this Filipino boxer of history wins! Manny Pacquiao! He unites the nation for short. His like is like a fairy tale, a rug to riches story and a very inspiring one for the fellow Filipinos.

Manny Pacquiao, his popular name aside from the Pac-man, was born Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao in December 17, 1978.. For those who does not know him yet, he is a Filipino professional boxer, with a lot of matches, majority of which are winnings rather than losings.. He is currently the WBC Lightweight Champion and the WBC Junior Lightweight Champion, the former world champion at IBF Super Bantamweight, and WBC Flyweight divisions. Pacquiao took over as the Ring Magazine pound for pound number one ranked boxer in the world on June 9, 2008, after Floyd Mayweather, Jr. announced his retirement from boxing. ("The Ring Ratings", The Ring. Retrieved on 2008-06-11.)

As quoted above, Pacquiao has it as a boxer. A successful sports life turniong everything into something of use. From his boxing abilities, he became a national symbol for Filipinos as well as one of the leading promotion guys in TV. He even tried his popularity in politics although it did not succeed. Moreover, he also tried his popularity, money, power and all that he has to disappoint the Filipino people, or at least, the Filipino people who have wide mind and those Filipinos who can open their eyes and ears to the wrngs done by this so-called "hero".

We cannot deny that Manny Pacquiao has done so much for the nation. He is admired. He becomes an insiration. A hero, a model. Kids admire him. The whole masses, especially the poor sees in him the hope: the hope that like him, one can attain success despite of poverty and hurdles of being a Filipino. But if one has a greater understanding, they would realize that Manny Pacquiao is only human, not perfect and full of weaknesses and imperfections.

As attacked by the Roman Catholic Church, "How can a known womanizer and gambler be a good Catholic?" (A Quiapo Priest, stated in the Inquirer, net)

I am not with the church but I am with those who are diappointed with this Pac-man guy. I admired him too. Until now, I still hope he wins everytime. But I also wish that he continues to be an inspiration of a country where most are poor and in pain. I hope Pacquia gives light and be a good model to those who look up at him. He stop gambling and womanizing. If he gets bored, hel those needy and poor in the country, there are millions of them... please don't waste money in gambling, night clubs, women and other vices that can destroy you. Be a good person, a good father to your children, a good husband to Jinky and most of all, be a living hero!

i so agree with you. pacquiao and hiw wife are really having a field day spending their millions on material things. can we really blame? it may be that they're just having a fill of what they've missed out during their leaner days. the thing is, that is not a justification on his womanizing and gambling bit.

Unfortunately when people have too much power too quickly and they are not wise enough to handle it, they go down the wrong root and when people are buying other's affections through money and glory it is really sad. Yes he may be good at what he does, but it would be nice if he became a BETTER person through it. Time may eventually tell.

Manny Pacquiao is indeed one of the great Filipino boxers in the nation, but all of his wrong doings and all the things he should have carefully spent his money on just makes me ashamed of him as a half Filipino..

He should have at least donated like part of his money to Charity. Rather than spending all of his money for luxury.

Well, at least Pacquiao gives hope to the people and brings them together for a common purpose.

As a role model, he should set a better standard for himself for others to follow. One can only hope he comes to realize that himself.

unfortunaately money and fame are big responsibilities and when people are given both at such a high rate they do bad things with it

i totally agree with you. you would think i'm so bad hehe, but to tell you honestly, whenever he has a fight there are 2 things i pray for: i pray that he wins for the country, on the other hand i pray that he loses to get him back on the ground. sama ko no hehe.

Hi, I am not a boxing fan. I simply don't understand it. Two people hitting each other on the head. Some end up with brain damage and some get killed. It's true they get paid. But it's not worth it if you get brain damage.

It’s a pity that some people waste their money on unnecessary things. Maybe they’re seeking happiness and many become drug addicts and others end up corrupted. But they do not understand the joy experienced by those who are helping the needy

@ Hi Liza, that is not very cruel. I see reason to it. I also hope he closes his boxing career so he stopped it while on the top and not while he is down...
